Life's Short
by Steve Higginbotham
May 14, 2006
Have you seen the billboard that towers over the Gold Coast district in Chicago?  I won't show you because it is offensive, but I can describe it for you.  On one end of the billboard, there is a picture of a woman and on the other end of the billboard there is a picture of a man.  The catch is that both of them are barely clothed.  In between these two pictures is this message...

"Life's Short.  Get a Divorce."

Above and below this message is the name and phone number of a law firm that specializes in divorce.

Friends, apart from the promiscuously dressed man and woman on this billboard that can be viewed by adults as well as little children, there's the message on the billboard that is as obscene as the pictures, themselves.  Rather than saying, "Life's short.  Get a Divorce,"  would not a better message say, "Life's Short.  Make Your Marriage The Best It Can Be" or "Life's Short.  Love Your Spouse?"

The last I checked, God still hates divorce (Malachi 2:16), and only approves of it in the case of one's spouse committing fornication (Matthew 19:9).

We have a choice to make.  We can agree with the advertisement on the bulletin board and trade-in our "older model" spouse for a new one (which people are doing more of than ever before in the history of our nation), or we can follow the advice of God and "...rejoice with the wife of your youth...and let no one deal treacherously with the wife of his youth" (Proverbs 5:18; Malachi 2:15).
