Buried Treasure In Your Back Yard
by Steve Higginbotham
August 24, 2006
Did you ever dream as a child, of finding buried treasure in your back yard?  Did you ever imagine that some pirate might have buried a chest full of gold and treasure and that it was buried in your back yard just waiting for you to find it?  Ok, so maybe it's just me.  I had an active imagination.

But now, suppose with me that you really knew there was indeed a treasure buried in your back yard.  What would you do, and how would you go about it?  If you're like me, your back yard would be full of pot holes, and probably your neighbor's as well.  I certainly wouldn't dig one hole and quit when it wasn't there.  And it wouldn't take me years and years to get the back yard dug up.  It would be a priority that I wouldn't quit on until I had unearthed my treasure.

Now here's the point.  Solomon said that we need to seek wisdom, understanding, and knowledge like we would a buried treasure.  Listen, "If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God" (Prov. 2:4-5).

Question:  Do you pursue the knowledge of God as you would a buried treasure?  Are you as diligent in digging into the word of God for spiritual treasures as you would be digging in  your back yard for silver and gold?  Maybe we need to rethink our priorities.  After all, the mother of all treasure chests would pale in comparison to the treasures that can be uncovered in the word of God.

Give it some thought!
