An Apple Or A Pair?
by Steve Higginbotham
August 15, 2007
I'm sure you've heard the joke..."It wasn't an apple in the tree that caused the trouble in the Garden of Eden, it was the "pair" on the ground. (Groan here)

Indeed it was the husband and wife pair of Adam and Eve who introduced sin into our world, and both were equally guilty.  I often hear men joking about Eve being deceived by Satan and introducing sin into the world.  However, what these men fail to realize is that Adam too, failed that day.  You see, Adam was not on some remote corner of the garden when Eve fell, he was right there with her.  Read it for yourself (Genesis 3:6).  Where was his leadership?  Where was his intervention?  There is no indication that he tried to stop what he knew to be sinful.

If there was ever a case that exemplified the importance of a godly mate, this would be it.  Friends, teach your children to give great care in the selection of a spouse.  Teach them the importance of marrying someone who loves God and wants to do right.  Why?  Because there are too many situations in life just like the one Adam and Eve faced...situations in which one must decide between right and wrong.  To have a spouse who would encourage one to do wrong rather than encourage one to do right may mean the difference between Heaven and Hell.

Give it some thought.
