A Book Review

Although I am not the most prolific reader, I do continue to read as much as I can. I believe it is a grave mistake for a preacher, or for any Christian to stop reading and studying. We should live our lives in a pursuit for greater knowledge of God’s word and how he wants us to live.

That brings me to a book that I’m currently reading and would like to recommend to you because of its timeliness.

This author has his finger on the pulse of 21st-century American culture as well as the 21st-century American church. This book unhesitantly tackles some of today’s most hotly debated moral and spiritual issues.

For instance, on the topic of gender, this author argues that there are just two genders and that there are gender-specific roles in the church. This isn’t a popular position, but he sets forth an airtight case that everyone should read. I have found myself taking notes from every chapter.

On the matter of divorce, this author has shown how the decline in successful marriages has impacted our culture. He argues that divorce is a sin except in the case of fornication. Furthermore, he affirms remarriages following divorce result in adultery, except in cases of fornication. He makes a case for his position and advances how a better model for the home can impact our society in productive ways.

And, in a world where many only know Christianity through “denominational lenses,” he argues that denominational is divisive and thus, sinful. He affirms that denominational divisions were never a part of God’s plan, but rather, stand in the way of God’s desire for unity.

Anyway, there are many more interesting things this book has to say about our present concerns, but I want you to read them for yourself. If you would like a copy of this book, we have several copies available in our church library. However, I suspect you may already have a copy of your own. You see, the book to which I am referring is the Bible, and the author is God.

If you want to read a good book, I have one to suggest!
